The Carmel Pine Cone has been published since 1915, which makes it nearly as old as the city itself, since Carmel incorporated in 1916. It is a weekly paper and covers town news, politics, arts, entertainment, opinion and real estate.
It also appears in the historical record: Una Jeffers wrote an article about Tor House for the paper in January 1941. In it she explained that the knoll, with stones jutting from treeless ground, reminded the couple of the tors of Dartmoor, which is how Tor House got its name.
Another weekly, The Californian, formerly The Carmel Sun, ran in 1936 and 1937, published by E.F. Bunch.
