Mission Ranch sits on Dolores Street just south of the city, in the Mission Tract. The land was part of a 216-acre ranch that the Martin family farmed with potatoes, barley and dairy cows, and it got its name from its closeness to Carmel Mission. A creamery was built there in 1897.
After a number of owners, Clint Eastwood bought it in 1986, saving it from a condominium plan. He restored the farmhouse, bunkhouse and dance barn in their original style. The hotel has 31 rooms within ten buildings.
A 1959 film, A Summer Place, used a cottage at the ranch for some scenes.
